HPI - Weldable and Bondable Strain Gages

HPI weldable gages are precision foil strain gages bonded to stainless steel shim, pre-wired and waterproofed. Critical procedures requiring skill and a controlled environment such as bonding, soldering and moisture proofing, are done in our laboratory by highly trained technicians; making them simple to install using standard epoxies or spot welding. All quality control is tightly checked and monitored. Waterproofed versions are100 percent immersion checked in water.

An important attribute of weldable gages is the capability of pre-calibration for thermal output. Whether it's a low temp gage for use on a bridge or a high temp gage on a very hot part, pre-calibration will greatly improve strain measurement accuracy.

Weldable gages can be used extensively in the field for many civil applications, i.e. Bridges, railroads and other structural projects that need to be monitored for strain . We have waterproof gages designed for marine applications and high temperature gages for automotive applications.

The chart below is a list of our standard, weldable gages. All gages can be built to your custom specifications using a variety of configurations and materials.

AXIAL	AXIAL/CHEVRON
Axial gages measure strain in one principal direction. Even though half and full bridge configurations are available, all the gages in this section measure strain along the long axis of the shim	Axial/Chevron gages have two separate sensor shims allowing the engineer or designer to locate the gages in any orientation he chooses for highest output or cancellation effects
CHEVRON	SHEAR
Chevron gages have strain gages mounted 90° apart on the same shim. Adding Poisson's ratio measurement is the most popular use of these gages	More compact than chevron gages, these gages have strain gages mounted 90° apart and also 45° from the long axis of the shim. Shaft torque and shear are easy measurements with these gages
AMPLIFIED	SEVERE ENVIRONMENT
These gages combine a four element Wheatstone bridge, internal bridge excitation regulation, and a gain of 100 or 1000 to produce a high level signal output for data acquisition and superior signal to noise ratio	Thick rubber covers the cable for excellent mechanical protection in these designs
TEMPERATURE SENSORS	POLYIMIDE (BONDABLE)
Foil, RTD, and integrated circuit temperature sensors are available in the same pre-wired and water- proofed packaging	Polyimide shims allow for bonding where welding is not suggested or permitted. Any quality strain gage adhesive may be used to bond these gages
